LAST week while shopping in one of the supermarket chains in Puchong, we came across some red grapes from China on promotion. They tasted sweet, in fact, unusually sweet for this variety of grapes and we bought a fair amount. On reaching home, we soaked and washed the grapes before consumption. The surprise was, the sweetness was no longer there. It tasted a bit sour, nothing near the sweetness before being washed. Our suspicion is the grapes could have been soaked in a sugary substance that could be detrimental to our health. The same grapes were still on promotion the next day. I complained to one of the supermarket attendants and urged him to investigate it. UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMER,
